Woods with Friends: Old School RuneScape’s Woodcutting Skill Becomes More Social in Forestry Expansion

Check out the trailer for Forestry here

Wednesday, 28 June 2023 – Launching today in Old School RuneScape, Forestry is a new skill expansion that expands upon the Woodcutting skill bringing a more social and dynamic experience to one of the RuneScape series’ most iconic activities. If you go into the woods today, you’re sure of a big surprise.

Today’s Forestry launch is the first part of this two-part expansion. Players will sport their best plaid shirts as they explore with friends to earn additional skill XP. While two players or more are chopping the same tree, player will receive an XP bonus to Woodcutting for each person at the tree. Many hands make light work!

Additional changes have also been made to the Woodcutting skill including the despawning timers of trees. Trees will now despawn on a timer that activates after the first cut and regenerates if players stop cutting the tree before it’s fully chopped. For the novice Arborists, what this means is that players will no longer be competing for the same resources.

Forestry also introduces spontaneous events that can occur when trees are felled with a Forestry Kit. These events can be participated in by any nearby woodcutters with players encountering Remote Banking Leprechauns, Rising Roots, Struggling Saplings and Flowering Trees.

Now breaking a sweat is a reward in of itself, but this first part of Forestry will reward players with what they actually want: brand new items and craftables. These include the Lumberjack outfit and a log basket to save players ‘two trips’.

The second part of Forestry will be launching in August and will be introducing new leaves, tea-brewing, and bonfires.

This year, the Old School RuneScape team began the process of adding a new skill for the first time in the game’s 10-year history. Passing the pitching stage, the new skill Sailing will now enter refinement before it is put before the community for the lock-in vote. Learn more about community polling and the skill development schedule over on the Old School RuneScape website.
